Unitil Selects Miner & Miner's ArcFM™ as its AM/FM/GIS

Utility implements solid GIS foundation to support enterprise endeavors

Fort Collins, CO -- Miner & Miner (M&M) is pleased to announce the addition of Unitil Corporation to its user community. Unitil Corporation is a public utility holding company providing electric and gas services to 110,000 accounts over 578 square miles, serving 37 communities in the Merrimack River Valley and Seacoast regions of New Hampshire and the North Central region of Massachusetts.

Utilizing a CAD-based mapping system for over ten years, Unitil decided to upgrade the current CAD system to a scalable platform capable of supporting their Enterprise GIS vision. Unitil's long-term strategic endeavor is to have an Enterprise GIS that will unify work processes and provide a spatial context for data from various systems, enabling end-users to make better, more efficient decisions in their daily work.

Unitil's internal GIS Initiative Team has lead the process of vendor assessment and selection of a core GIS platform to suit the changing needs of the utility. Its goals were to assist and direct in the process of selecting a third party software vendor to support the new GIS vision. A significant requirement was to accommodate the needs of gas and electric operations and perform various upgrades including the database model and the RDBMS to MS-SQL Server. Miner & Miner's ArcFM Solution technology was selected as the best choice for Unitil's short-term and long-term Enterprise GIS.

Implementing ArcFM will provide Unitil with the platform to make future operational improvements. The system will provide support for a multi-editing environment through versioning. Also, by feeding Unitil's electrical analysis package (Milsoft) directly from the GIS, the solution will provide current and historical views of system planning parameters. In the future, the design process will become more efficient by providing design analysis and work management tools in a common environment.
