United Illuminating Rolls Into Production with Miner & Miner's ArcFM
Fort Collins, CO -- The United Illuminating Company (UI), headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, has recently completed the implementation of Miner & Miner's (M&M) ArcFM and Network Adapter, along with ESRI's ArcGIS. UI is a regional distribution utility providing electricity and energy-related services to more than 318,000 retail customers in a service area of approximately 335 square miles.
UI is a diversified utility whose business operations include the purchase, transmission, distribution, and sale of energy related services to residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout the Greater New Haven and Bridgeport areas. Formed in 1899 through the merge of Bridgeport Electric Company with the New Haven Electric Company, UI today serves nearly 21% of Connecticut's population.
UI selected the ArcGIS/ArcFM solution as part of a major upgrade program to their enterprise GIS software at the utility. The open architecture of M&M's ArcFM Solution enabled UI to take the lead on many of the tasks for migrating to the new system. With M&M's project team assistance in project planning, custom tools development, and end-user training, UI was able to focus their efforts on the data modeling and conversion necessary for the project.
Customizations developed by M&M included a number of data maintenance tools, a map production tool that enables editors to produce Detail Area maps and Primary Circuit maps, and an integration of the GIS data to CYMDist through the use of M&M's Network Adapter. In addition, M&M's Session Manager is being implemented to create better workflows, allowing editors to update the system and maintain data faster and more efficiently.
In production since December 2002, the system has received high user acceptance at UI. M&M continues to provide ongoing support for the rollout of UI's new ArcGIS/ArcFM environment and is working with the utility to expand the scope of their GIS to incorporate their dense conduit network.
