Telvent Acquires Majority Stake in Miner & Miner
Leading RealTime IT Services Provider to Extend the ArcFM Solution into the Global Market
Houston, Texas, and Fort Collins, Colorado -- Telvent GIT, a global leader in RealTime IT, announced that it has acquired a majority equity stake in Miner & Miner. Telvent is a provider of integrated value-added IT solutions for the energy, traffic, transportation, and environment sectors. Based in Fort Collins, Colorado, Miner & Miner is the developer of ArcFM, a GIS software solution for utilities that has been implemented at more than 180 utilities in North America and abroad. Under the terms of the acquisition, Jeff Meyers, president of M&M, and Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI, will retain an equity interest in the company.
Miner & Miner has been a privately-held company since it was founded in 1946. Telvent, traded on the NASDAQ (TLVT), has approximately 2,400 employees worldwide, with more than 500 in North America. Telvent’s IT business is focused on executing projects in the field of mission-critical, realtime control and information management, operational and advanced enterprise integration applications. The investment is consistent with Telvent’s growth strategy for providing strategic IT solutions and services from the field to the boardroom. This strategy is enabled through building the infrastructure and industry specific applications allowing enterprise use of realtime and network data at the control, operational, and strategic levels.
GIS has been a very rapid growth area in our international IT practice, said Manuel Sánchez Ortega, president and CEO of Telvent. Customers today need better strategic enterprise and asset information to gain or maintain a competitive edge. Telvent’s market leadership, and Miner & Miner’s ArcFM Solution, extensive business process knowledge, and experienced people, will help us further develop our solutions to meet those needs. This acquisition will also allow us to deploy these solutions to new industry sectors, including traffic, transportation and the environment. In addition, the compatibility between these technologies will enable us to provide seamless solutions connecting the operational and enterprise layers of the organization.
Built on the core GIS technology of ESRI, the ArcFM Solution is the market-leading suite of utility Enterprise GIS products for data management, work order design, network analysis, and outage management. This technology is highly compatible with Telvent’s core infrastructure product, OASyS DNA, a family of IT infrastructure and market operations products that have set the standard for modular, extensible realtime data acquisition, control, information management and decision making.
Jack Dangermond, ESRI president, envisions a great deal of potential in the transaction. This acquisition brings together a very focused solution provider with a strong international partner, said Dangermond. The customers of ESRI, M&M, and Telvent stand to benefit from the synergies and the new and innovative solutions that can evolve from this business alliance.
A transaction such as this can only provide long-term benefits when there is a focused strategy behind it, combined with a commitment to drive forward with that strategy, said Jeff Meyers, president of M&M. This is a tremendous opportunity for M&M’s employees, users, and business partners. M&M’s people and technology have led to remarkable growth and this strategy will continue that growth, now in a more global and wider industry sector context. Telvent’s strength and vision make them an ideal partner to help take us to the next level.
