Pepco In Production With Miner & Miner's Dynamic Outage Mapping
ArcIMS-based outage mapping system provides updated information to customers in Washington, DC and Maryland service areas
Fort Collins, CO -- Pepco, an electric utility serving the
Washington, DC and Maryland areas, went into production in July with an
ESRI ArcIMS-based Dynamic Outage Mapping System (DOMS) built and
customized by Miner & Miner. DOMS acquires outage information from
Pepco's outage management system (OMS) and their ArcSDE geodatabase for
graphically displaying power outages on service area maps via the
Internet.
After Hurricane Isabel, Pepco recognized the need to communicate outage
problems not only to their internal operations, but also to their
consumers as a customer service benefit. The system is currently
accessible through Pepco's
website and enables customers to log on and view transformer outages,
outages by zip code, and crew concentrations. The maps are automatically
updated every thirty minutes to ensure timely information.
Pepco began their relationship with Miner & Miner in 2000 with
their purchase of ArcFM for use in maintaining their primary distribution
area and feeding their outage management system.
