KeySpan Corporation Selects ArcGIS™ and ArcFM™ for Electric GIS

Redlands, CA -- KeySpan's Electric Business Unit, in conjunction with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), has selected ESRI's ArcGIS and Miner & Miner's ArcFM for its geographic information system (GIS). Miner & Miner (M&M) will provide ArcFM implementation services including data modeling, application development, DistOps/CYME integration, and training. In addition, ESRI Professional Services was awarded a multiyear contract for program management and quality assurance/quality control services for the data conversion and field survey effort of the project.

“The Electric Business Unit at KeySpan had a raster-based mapping system that was not going to meet their long-term strategic needs,” said Kevin Kirk, energy account manager, ESRI. “The ArcGIS/ArcFM platform will provide them with the foundation necessary to support their current mapping and analysis requirements as well as potential future integration with other business systems. Both ESRI and Miner & Miner are honored to have been selected to serve their needs. We will be working closely with KeySpan to ensure a fast and efficient implementation.”

When complete, the system will support up to 24 editors who will be utilizing ArcEditor/ArcFM running on Citrix Servers. In addition, more than 300 other users will have access to the ArcSDE/Oracle database via a variety of other applications including ArcFM Viewer, DistOps, Conduit System Manager, ArcInfo, and ArcIMS.

KeySpan is an interstate energy company responsible for supplying electric generation to the New York counties of Nassau, Suffolk, and a small section of Queens. LIPA's service territory covers 1,230 square miles with nearly 1.1 million customers. On LIPA's behalf, KeySpan's Electric Business Unit maintains more than 14,000 miles of electric lines, 535,000 support structures, 170,000 transformers, and 775 primary feeders in 175 substations. KeySpan also generates more than 6,000 megawatts of electric power in Long Island and New York City. In addition, the company provides natural gas service to more than 2.5 million customers in the New York counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island and parts of New England.
