Regional “Working With ArcFM” Training Course Completed in Burbank, CA

Localized Training Session Benefits West Coast ArcFM™ Solution User Community

Fort Collins, CO -- During the week of August 8-12, Miner & Miner, a Telvent company, conducted a five-day “Working with ArcFM” course hosted by Burbank Water and Power (BWP). Attending users included representatives from the City of Pasadena, Turlock Irrigation, City of Colton, Laurens Electric, and Burbank Water & Power.

Burbank Water & Power has been an ArcFM user since 2002 and manages its electric and water distribution systems with the application. Larry Wilke, Electric GIS Analyst at BWP, offered a state-of-the-art training facility to conduct the class. BWP has long been a proponent of local collaboration.

“I enjoyed being able to interact with the students and give 'real world' examples of the exercises being taught,” says Wilke. “It was nice for the students to have the ability to look at and compare with another utility’s enterprise implementation.”

Offering an education course in a centralized location allowed the attendees to save on travel costs by commuting daily to the training facility and also offered the opportunity for close collaboration with neighboring utilities. The hosts at BWP provided an excellent balance of entertainment and education, encouraging the group to communicate their own experiences and visualize the solution in their own environments. The utility also provided those new to the ArcFM community the occasion to see a fully configured ArcFM database operated by established users.

Miner & Miner offers their ArcFM-specific training in two formats, a five-day “Working with ArcFM” course and a two-day “Accelerated ArcFM” course. The five-day course incorporates core ArcMap functionality and aids inexperienced users in growing into working with both ArcMap and ArcFM. Kim Vaughn of Laurens Electric Coop said, “The training has proven to be most helpful in my daily work now that I have started editing. The learning process was made much easier by the laid back atmosphere and friendliness of all of the class members and instructor.” James Payad from Burbank Water and Power said, “Even if you have not been exposed to ArcMap before, you can still learn a lot through this education course. I can’t wait to apply the things I have learned to my work!”
