2008 Telvent Miner & Miner User Group Conference Yields Value for Attendees and Sponsors

Fort Collins, CO -- Telvent Miner & Miner (TM&M), hosted its 7th annual User Group conference February 19-21, 2008, in Fort Collins, Colorado. A record 330 registrants, representing more than 87 electric, gas, and water utilities from around the world and 28 TM&M business partners, attended demonstrations of ArcFM™ enterprise GIS solutions, case studies of user implementations, and user feedback forums.

Throughout the three days, registrants attended their choice of beginner-to-advanced product training classes, technical and best-practice sessions, customer presentations of implementations, and formal and informal gatherings for customer interaction. Included were theater-style demonstrations of the functionality enhancements of ArcFM version 9.2.1, released in January 2008; description of quality assurance advancements such as automated testing and drag-and-drop installers for patches; customer Technical Support improvements, and insight to anticipated product developments.

Of particular interest was a series of sessions detailing Telvent’s recently launched Smart Grid Solution (SGS) Suite initiative, which integrates Smart Operations (SCADA, GIS, DMS, FMS, and OMS); Smart Metering (AMI, MDM, and MOM), and Smart Network (advanced data acquisition infrastructure).

“Possibly one of the best things I got out of the ArcFM conference was the ability to hear and learn from various organizations about their customer base, number of GIS personnel, and work flows as a comparison to what we do. You can recognize your own strengths and deficiencies by comparing to other organizations and how they do things,” commented Thomas Miller, Senior GIS Coordinator with Enogex Inc.

“The most valuable thing to us is the ability to speak directly with the developers and then see product development that is driven by this interaction. This conference also presents us with the ability to share ideas with other Responder users,” added Dale Walker, Utility Engineer IV with Gainesville Regional Utilities.
