City of Long Beach in Production with
Telvent Miner & Miner’s ArcFM™ Solution

Fort Collins, CO -- The City of Long Beach in Long Beach, CA, is now in production with Telvent Miner & Miner’s ArcFM Solution to support developing and maintaining their gas distribution spatial data. The organization is now able to leverage a GIS solution that provides a more efficient way of maintaining and accessing gas pipe and facility records.

The City of Long Beach Gas and Oil Department provides gas in several pressure districts supported by a series of main lines also known as its “back bone” system. It maintains over 900 miles of mains, both plastic and steel, ranging in size from one inch to twenty inches. Individual residents and businesses are connected to the mains through over 91,000 services, providing natural gas to over 500,000 residents.

As of March 2007, ArcFM has been deployed to office and field staff, and the GIS is now being maintained in-house. Prior to using ArcFM, Long Beach was organizing and maintaining their spatial data using paper-based systems. These paper-based records did not allow for rapid analysis, and they allowed for little correlation between what assets were added, removed, and maintained in the field.

Telvent Miner & Miner’s ArcFM Solution allows the City of Long Beach to provide timely, accurate information to both office and field users. It provides for better analyses, helping to target pipeline replacement as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). “ArcFM has made the ESRI platform significantly more user friendly for both our office and field staff,” said Mike J Zukoski PE, the organization’s Senior Civil Engineer.
