If you enjoy the thrill of skiing or snowboarding, please join us for a day of winter adventure at Winter Park Resort on Friday, February 22nd. Winter Park is Colorado's favorite ski area, located 67 miles west of Denver via Interstate 70 and U.S. 40. Travel time from Fort Collins is about 2½ to 3 hours depending on driving conditions. This year we are chartering a bus to take us from the Hilton Fort Collins to Winter Park. The bus will leave the Hilton at 6:00 a.m. and arrive at Winter Park by 9:00 a.m. The bus will leave Winter Park at 5 p.m. and arrive back at the Hilton by 8 p.m. Bus transportation is free for those attending the Telvent Miner & Miner User Group.

Winter Park has 2,886 acres of terrain for all ability levels, including 137 trails and 23 lifts. Conditions in mid-February should be ideal - we typically have lots of fresh powder around that time. For more information, and updated conditions, please check the Winter Park website at http://www.skiwinterpark.com.
If you are planning on skiing on Friday the 22nd, please let us know so we can reserve a seat for you on the bus. For those who choose to drive to Winter Park, we will plan to meet in front of the Balcony House at Winter Park (not Mary Jane) at 9:30 a.m. The secondary meeting time and place will be noon at Snoasis on the 3rd floor, which is the uppermost level. Snoasis is the restaurant on the Winter Park mountain.

Telvent Miner & Miner will coordinate rentals with a local ski shop. Ski rentals including boots and poles generally cost from $10 to $20. High performance gear costs a little more.
Discount lift tickets can be purchased at many Front Range grocery stores including Safeway and King Soopers for about $75 for adults and about $37 for kids 13 years and younger. Kids 5 years old or younger ski free. Lift tickets could be purchased at Winter Park for $86 for adults and $45 for kids.
At the end of the day, please plan on sharing your adventures as we do après-ski on the charter bus home; your favorite canned beverages may be brought along for après-ski if you wish.

Snowshoeing
For those of you who want to spend a day in the Rocky Mountains but would rather not be hurtling out of control down a slope, snowshoeing is the answer. Winter Park is located in Arapahoe National Forest. This year, snowshoers will be joining the skiers on the charter bus to Winter Park.
The plan is to shuttle into the town of Winter Park and take a short tour into Arapahoe National Forest. Along the tour we will see some spectacular sights as we hike through the snow-covered wilderness. The beauty of snowshoes is that we can stay on the trail if we want, or venture out into the untracked woods (don't worry, bears are hibernating this time of year). No special skills, iron physique, or expensive outfits are needed. Dress in layers in clothes you already own (remember hats, gloves, scarves, etc.), and almost any boots (e.g. Sorels, hiking boots) work fine. Remember that it gets a bit cold and windy up in the mountains so please dress appropriately. The hike should last about 2-3 hours. Please remember to bring some food and drink for the hike.
Cross Country Skiing
This year we are offering a cross country skiing option again. You will be hard pressed to find a better winter workout than logging a few hours on some cross country skis. The plan is to go in the same general area as the snowshoe group, and for about the same amount of time. Dress warmly in clothes you can comfortably move around in, and don't forget gloves, a hat, food and water!
If you are thinking of joining in the fun, or just have additional questions please send an email to David Klein (david.klein@miner.com).
